On 9 February 2024, H.E. Mr. Jakkapong Sangmanee, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs on behalf of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, hosted a luncheon in honor of H.E. Mr. Xavier Bettel, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade and Minister for Cooperation of Luxembourg, during the latter’s official visit to Thailand between 8-9 February 2024.

Both parties discussed trade and investment facilitation, including the pending bilateral agreements where both sides agreed to renegotiate the Convention for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with Respect to Taxes on Income and Capital and Social Security Agreement. DPM Bettel welcomed Thailand’s intention to issue the Sustainability Linked Bond and the potential listing of the Bond on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange (LuxSE).

Other issues of discussion included academic cooperation in high performance computing and AI, Landbridge Project and trilateral development cooperation in the Lao PDR. The Thai side sought Luxembourg's support on the early conclusion of negotiations for the Thailand-EU FTA, the Schengen Visa exemption, as well as Thailand's OECD membership application.

Both sides also exchanged views on key regional and global issues, including the situations in Russia-Ukraine, the Middle East, Myanmar as well as reform of the UNSC. This visit presented a good opportunity to further strengthen ties between Thailand and Luxembourg, as both countries are commemorating the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year.
