Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs accompanies Prime Minister to meet with IEA Executive Director and UNESCO Director-General in Paris

On 22 May 2026,  H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, accompanied H.E. Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister, to meet with Dr. Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), and then Mr. Khaled Ahmed El-Enany Ali Ezz, Director-General of UNESCO, in Paris, the French Republic.

In the meeting with the IEA, both sides underscored the importance of promoting energy security, through (1) ensuring energy policies accelerate the energy transition; (2) advancing measures to address the consequences of the situation in the Middle East; (3) promoting cooperation between Thailand and the IEA to elevate collaboration in energy and emergency response; and (4) advancing Thailand’s OECD accession process with support from the IEA in advancing energy standards.

In the meeting with UNESCO, both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in various areas, including (1) sustainable tourism to balance economic growth with cultural and environmental conservation; (2) education and AI cooperation to promote Thailand’s role as a regional education collaboration hub; (3) traditional Thai costume nomination to be included on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity to promote Thai identity and wisdom internationally.
