On 30 January 2025, Ms. Somrudee Poopornanake, Deputy Director-General of the Department of European Affairs met with Ms. Diana Acconcia, Director for International Affairs and Climate Finance, Directorate-general for Climate Action (DG CLIMA), European Commission and attended the Roundtable on Climate Policy and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) in Thailand and the European Union (EU), at the European Union Delegation to Thailand.

Both sides had a fruitful discussion on the EU’s and Thailand’s policies and workplans to mitigate climate change. The Thai agencies presented work plans in various sectors such as energy, transportation, agriculture, industry, and climate finance.

Both sides discussed cooperation and capacity building between Thailand and the EU to achieve climate goals such as carbon pricing to support a green and just transition. Thailand is committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2065, and the EU aims to be climate-neutral by 2050. DG CLIMA plays a crucial role in driving the European Green Deal and commitments under the Paris Agreement and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
