On 19 December 2024, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, had a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mr. Md. Touhid Hossain, Adviser for Foreign Affairs of the Interim Government of Bangladesh, during the Informal Consultations between Myanmar and neighbouring countries in Bangkok.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen bilateral relations, including exploring opportunities in trade and investment. They concurred about the contribution of cooperation in the fisheries sector among BIMSTEC countries to regional food security. In addition, they also discussed the potential of opening a shipping route between Ranong Port and Chittagong Port, and the Thailand - Myanmar - India Trilateral Highway Project. Both sides welcomed the Agreement on Visa Exemption for Official Passport Holders, which has entered into force on 19 December 2024, a crucial tool to facilitate exchanges of visits between the two countries.

The discussion also provided an opportunity for both countries to address current regional issues, particularly the situations in Myanmar and the Rohingya.
