On 21 August 2025, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, delivered the opening remarks at the ASEAN Multi-Stakeholder Forum on Sustainability held in Bangkok under the theme “Transformative, equitable, innovative and coordinated actions for the 2030 Agenda and its SDGs for a sustainable future for all.“ The Forum was co-organized by the Ministry, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), and the ASEAN Secretariat.

The Foreign Minister reaffirmed the importance of jointly advancing the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, both at the regional level and on the international stage, through the development of a strengthened partnership between ASEAN and the United Nations. He also reiterated Thailand’s commitment, in its role as the ASEAN Coordinator on Sustainable Development, to supporting this effort—particularly in the context of ASEAN’s implementation of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, which was endorsed by ASEAN Leaders in May 2025. This vision aims to steer ASEAN toward becoming a green community that is resilient to emerging challenges.

In addition, on 22 August 2025, Thailand presented the draft report entitled “Complementarities between the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,” or Complementarities Initiative (CI) 2.0, at the 9th High-Level Brainstorming Dialogue on Enhancing Complementarities between the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (HLBD). The 9th HLBD featured regional consultation —an exchange of views on the draft CI 2.0 report among representatives from ASEAN Member States, Timor-Leste, and ESCAP, together with experts in relevant focus areas from regional organizations. These included representatives from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Asia and the Pacific Office, Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), and ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE). Their inputs were aimed at supporting the refinement and finalization of the draft report.
