On 29 October 2026, Mrs. Chatvadee Chindawongse, Director-General of the Department of ASEAN Affairs, met with Mr. Pablo Kang, Australian Ambassador to Thailand, on the occasion of his assumption of duty in July 2026.

The two sides discussed ways to advance the ASEAN-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP), which will mark its 5th anniversary at the 6th ASEAN-Australia Summit during the 49th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Manila. They also discussed Thailand’s priorities for the 49th ASEAN Summit, Thailand’s preparations and priorities for its ASEAN Chairmanship in 2028, and subregional cooperation, and exchanged views on regional and international developments, as well as the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of Thai-Australian Diplomatic Relations in 2027.

Australia is ASEAN’s first Dialogue Partner, having established dialogue relations in 1974 and elevating the relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2021, making it ASEAN’s first CSP partner. In 2024, the two sides celebrated the 50th anniversary of their Dialogue Relations.
