On 25th and 29th April 2019, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand and the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) in Thailand co-organized the Tripartite Committee Meeting for an Annual Review for 2018 of the United Nations Partnership Framework (UNPAF) 2017 – 2021, at Vithes Samosorn, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The meeting served as a Mid-Term Review of the UNPAF to evaluate its implementation after it was signed in 2017.

On 25th April 2019, Mrs. Kanchana Patarachoke, Director-General of the Department of International Organizations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, and Ms. Deirdre Boyd, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Thailand, delivered opening remarks at a meeting between representatives from government agencies and UNCT to review the UNPAF implementation during 2018. Around 90 participants from both sides attended the meeting. On this occasion, the UNCT presented their key operational activities divided into 5 clusters, namely (1) People, (2) Prosperity, (3) Planet, (4) Peace and Governance, and (5) Partnerships and Data. The participants took this opportunity to exchange views and ideas on how to improve the work efficiency between Thai and UN agencies in order to better serve national needs and priorities.

On 29th April 2019, a meeting between government agencies, private sector, academia, civil society and UNCT was held and attended by 80 participants. The meeting began with a panel discussion on the topic of “Leaving no one behind – what it means to Thailand”, followed by group discussions in a World Café format, in which the UNCT presented their works structured around the five above-mentioned clusters. This method stimulated interactive exchange of views among participants as well as helped create new partnerships.

UNPAF is a partnership framework between UN agencies and their host country. The present UNPAF (2017 – 2021) envisions Thailand to be an inclusive and equitable high-income country that leaves no one behind. Under UNPAF, there are four outcome strategies, namely (1) to develop effective, inclusive and sustainable policymaking and implementation, (2) to expand civic space and enable a strong civil society sector, (3) to encourage the private sector as a collaborator in national development, and (4) to expand the methodical exchange of expertise and technology available regionally/globally, including through South – South Cooperation frameworks. The Mid-Term Review is reflective of the strong cooperation between UN agencies and the Government of Thailand.
