A meeting was organised at St. Joseph’s School North Point, whereby a group of doctor and nurse from Lerdsin Hospital, Ministry of Public Health, Bangkok, were invited to conduct a health check and provide medical advice to 160 Thai students, who are studying in various classes, ranging from Grade 1 to Grade 11, in different international boarding schools across Darjeeling. Thai missionary monks from Thairachaduta 609 Monastery in Darjeeling also took part and granted blessings at the inaugural ceremony. And the Royal Thai Consulate’s representatives also gave lecture about Thailand-India relations to the Thai students.
Later during that same day, the delegation visited Thairachaduta 609 Monastery in Darjeeling, and paid a courtesy visit to Thai Buddhist monks at the Monastery, including Phra Kru Palad Photiwongworawat. The Royal Thai Consulate-General and the Thai Monastery discussed on various consular and religious affairs in Darjeeling.
Darjeeling is situated in the northernmost part of the federate state of West Bengal. It shares the border with the state of Sikkim, India, to the north, and with Nepal to the west. Darjeeling and its hilly region are world renowned “tea heaven”. The captivating scenery of the town makes it one of the most popular hill stations which has been developed since its colonial period under the British Empire. As home to a number of well-known international schools, Darjeeling attracts many Thai students; and Thai families continue to send their sons to study in international school programme in this town on a yearly basis.
