On 1-2 July 2018, H.E. Kang Kyung-wha, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea (ROK), paid an official visit to Thailand as guest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, on the occasion of the 60th Anniversary of the establishment of Thailand - ROK Diplomatic Relations.

During her visit, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of ROK held bilateral discussions with H.E. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, on the morning of 2 July 2018.

Both sides affirmed their determination to promote closer cooperation under the Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Partnership, established in 2012, focusing on 4 areas: political and security, economic, science and technology, and social and culture. In this regard, both sides exchanged views on bilateral cooperation, including on trade, investment and education. They also discussed cooperation in regional frameworks, particularly development partnership under the Ayeyawady – Chao Phraya – Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS), of which Thailand recently hosted the 8th Summit on 15-16 June 2018, the Mekong-ROK Cooperation, as well as ASEAN, which Thailand will chair in 2019.

Furthermore, the two ministers exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand welcomed recent positive developments on the Korean Peninsula and praised the ROK government, especially the active role of President Moon Jae-in, for the efforts to achieve sustained peace, stability and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula.

On 2 July 2018, Foreign Minister Kang also paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.
