On 26-27 June 2018, H.E. Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, paid an official visit to Thailand as guest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, and co-hosted the 3rd Conference on Cooperation among East Asian Countries for Palestinian Development (CEAPAD) Ministerial Meeting with H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, on 27 June 2018 at Dusit Thani Bangkok Hotel.
 
​During his visit, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan held bilateral discussions with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand on the morning of 27 June 2018. Both sides exchanged views on bilateral cooperation, as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest, including: development partnership under the Ayeyawady – Chao Phraya – Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS), of which Thailand recently hosted the 8th Summit on 15-16 June 2018, and under the Mekong-Japan Cooperation, of which Japan will be hosting a summit within this year; Thailand’s role as Chair of ASEAN in 2019; and the situation in Myanmar’s Rakhine State and on the Korean Peninsula.
 
On this occasion, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand presented, on behalf of the Thai government, a donation of 3,000,000 yen (approximately 900,000 baht) to the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan to express deepest condolences to those affected and for the losses incurred by the recent earthquake in the Kansai region.
 
​The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan also paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on 27 June 2018 at 16.30 hrs., before departing Thailand.
