The Secretary-General of ASEAN Paid a Visit to the Kingdom of Thailand

H.E. Dato Lim Jock Hoi, Secretary-General of ASEAN, visited the Kingdom of Thailand to advance ASEAN Community-building processes and prepare for Thailand's Chairmanship of ASEAN next year.

Following his participation at the 8th ACMECS Summit on 15 – 16 June 2018 at the Shangri-la Hotel in Bangkok, the Secretary-General of ASEAN paid a courtesy call on H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of Thailand, on 18 June 2018 at the Government House. The Prime Minister reiterated Thailand's continued support of the ASEAN Secretariat under the leadership of the Secretary-General and expressed appreciation for his close cooperation in supporting Thailand's preparations for its ASEAN Chairmanship in 2019 which will include Thailand’s priorities such as sustainable development, active ageing, and disaster management.

On the same day, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, hosted a working lunch in honour of the Secretary-General. They exchanged views on how to realise a people-centred ASEAN Community where no one is left behind. The Secretary-General of ASEAN also met with diplomats of the Department of ASEAN Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

H.E. Dato Lim Jock Hoi is the 14th Secretary-General of ASEAN. He has extensive experience on ASEAN, especially on economic and trade issues as a former Senior Economic Officials' Meeting (SEOM) Leader of Brunei Darussalam. He was appointed by the 31st ASEAN Summit in Manila last year and took office on 1 January 2018. According to the ASEAN Charter, the Secretary-General of ASEAN's term of office is five years which will be concluded at the end of 2022.
