On 22 May 2018, H.E. Mr. Virasakdi Futrakul, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, and the Foundation of Islamic Centre of Thailand co-hosted the Iftar Dinner for the diplomatic corps from Muslim countries in Thailand, Islamic scholars and religious leaders, as well as prominent figures of the Muslim Thai community at the Foundation of Islamic Center of Thailand. The event was attended by 1,500 participants, comprising members of the Muslim diplomatic corps in Thailand from 22 countries, Islamic scholars, religious leaders, prominent figures, and distinguished guests of the Thai Muslim community.

On this occasion, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs presented the Ministry’s contribution of 200,000 Baht to Mr. Samart Maluleem, President of Thai Islamic Centre of Thailand, in support of the Iftar Dinner event. In his welcome remarks, the Deputy Minister commended Muslim brothers and sisters who are observing the fasting during this holy month for their faith and profound and unwavering devotion and dedication, strictly abiding by Islamic principles. He further reiterated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs attaches importance to strengthening the relationship between Thailand and Muslim countries and supports Islamic affairs and the Thai Muslim community.

Iftar Dinner is an evening meal when Muslims break their fasts during the Holy month of Ramadan which holds spiritual value for all Muslims. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the Foundation of Islamic Centre of Thailand, has hosted the Iftar Dinner annually since 2009 to promote good relations between the Muslim diplomatic corps and Muslim community in Thailand.
