On 7 April 2018, Thai Festival and Cultural Association of South Australia organized the Songkran Festival or Thai New Year Celebration for the first time at Wigley Reserve, Glenelg, South Australia (SA).  On this occasion, Mrs. Thippawan Supamitkitja, Minister, Royal Thai Embassy, and His Excellency the Honourable Hieu Van Le, Governor of SA, together with his spouse attended this event and kindly gave remarks during the opening ceremony.  The Festival aimed to promote and teach Thai youth who grew up or born in Australia the rich and colourful heritage of Thailand. This event was supported by the Royal Thai Embassy, Royal Thai Honorary Consulate-General in Adelaide, Office of Tourism Authority of Thailand in Sydney, Holdfast Bay Council and Singha Corporation Co., Ltd.

There were varieties of activities at the Festival namely Buddhist ceremony, sprinkling water on the elders as a sign of respect, Thai traditional dances,  Muay Thai demonstration, Miss Songkran competition, Thai cooking demonstration and parade.  In addition, there were Thai restaurants and Thai community’s stalls serving favourite Thai dishes and desserts. This was the second activity that Thai community in SA organized this year.  There were approximately 4,000 people attended this year event.
