On 1 March 2018 His Excellency Mr. Nopporn Adchariyavanich, Ambassador of Thailand to Finland met with Mr. Mika Niikko, Member of the Parliament and Chairman of the Export Promotion Forum of the Parliament of Finland, to discuss about how to promote the trade and investment between Thailand and Finland. The meeting was also joined by Mr. Ville Tavio, Member of the Parliament and President of Finland - Thailand Parliamentary Friendship Group, and Ms. Johanna Ojala-Niemelä, Member of the Parliament and Member of Finland - Thailand Parliamentary Friendship Group.
The Export Promotion Forum, headed by Mr. Niikko is a group of the Finnish Parliamentarians who help promote trade and investment between Finland and foreign countries. The Export Promotion Forum operates as the consultant or coordinator for the Finnish businessmen and investors who are interested in doing business with foreign countries or investing overseas. During the discussion, Ambassador Adchariyavanich was of the view that although more than 135,000 Finns travel to Thailand every year, the Finnish businessmen overlook Thailand.
In this regard, Ambassador Adchariyavanich informed the Finnish Parliamentarians that the Royal Thai Government has currently established an economic special zone, called the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) which is an on top project of Thailand's Eastern Seaboard project. The Royal Thai government lists 10 targeted industries to be promoted in the EEC in which some areas would be in the interest of the Finnish businessmen. Those are aviation and logistics, smart electronics and digital. Ambassador Adchariyavanich, therefore, invited the Finnish businessmen to do business and invest in the EEC.
