The Official Visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to Thailand

          On 14 – 16 March 2018, H.E. Mr. Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, and his delegation, paid an official visit to Thailand as Guest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kingdom of Thailand. On this occasion, the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh paid a courtesy call on H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of Thailand and had a bilateral meeting with H.E. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.

          Both sides discussed ways to strengthen the bilateral ties between Thailand and Bangladesh, particularly through the exchange of visits, promotion of trade and investment, cooperation between security agencies and enhancing connectivity and cooperation in regional and multilateral fora.

          Both Ministers also signed the Agreement on Visa Exemption for Holders of Diplomatic Passports and jointly presided over the inauguration ceremony of the Bangabandhu Chair Professorship attached to the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) which Bangladesh has supported to promote research on energy technology and innovation.

          The Foreign Minister of Thailand also presented a pledging letter to contribute USD 100,000 to the representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Office in Thailand, for humanitarian assistance to the displaced persons in Bangladesh.

          On this occasion, the Foreign Minister of Thailand hosted a dinner in honour of the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh and his delegation. The Chairperson of Board of Trustees of AIT, President of AIT and the Bangabandhu Chair Professor, Dr. Joyashree Roy, also participated in the inauguration ceremony and attended the dinner.
