On 19 January 2017, H.E. Mr. Bhakavat Tanskul, Ambassador of Thailand to Nepal presented a donation amount of 850,000 NPR (or 283,333 THB) from Thai people to Phra Sribodhivides, Abbot of the Royal Thai Monastery in Lumbini to support a building construction of Metta Gurukul School, to which the Embassy and the Monastery has been providing assistances since 2012. Established in 2003 by the Lumbini Social Service Foundation, the Metta Gurukul School began as an idea developed by a group of local youth interested in learning Buddhism, practicing meditation as well as performing social work activities, which finally led to the founding of a primary school. At present, the Metta Gurukul School provides affordable education from primary school to secondary school levels to 750 Nepali children living in Lumbini and nearby villages. Therefore, the presentation of donation to support the Metta Gurukul School is another crucial mission for the Embassy to assist Nepal in education development and promote the increasing cooperation in Buddhism between Thailand and Nepal.
