As the Country-Coordinator on ASEAN-EU Dialogue Relations and ASEAN Coordinator on Sustainable Development Cooperation, Thailand will host the “ASEAN – EU Dialogue on Sustainable Development” on 17 November 2017 at Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel, Bangkok. H.E. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, and H.E. Mr. Neven Mimica, Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development, European Commission, will co-chair the meeting which also be attended by H.E. Mr. Le Luong Minh, Secretary-General of ASEAN.  

 

The objective of this Dialogue is to be a platform for dialogue between ASEAN and EU on sustainable development. The event stems from the 21st ASEAN – EU Ministerial Meeting in October 2016 which will be held to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Establishment of ASEAN and the 40th Anniversary of ASEAN – EU Relations in 2017. The Dialogue will bring together high-level officials from the 38 member countries of ASEAN and the EU, as well as representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat and international agencies including UNESCAP, UNDP, UN Women, UN Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC), and the World Bank. 

 

The Dialogue will emphasise three thematic areas as follow (1) the role of regional integration in promoting economic growth and narrowing development gaps, which adheres to a people-centered approach and to ensure that no one is left behind (2) addressing the challenges of climate change and promoting green growth, and (3) gender mainstreaming in the sustainable development process. 

 

The Dialogue includes a (1) High-Level segment for high-level representatives to deliver statements on sustainable development (2) Senior Officials’ sessions for ASEAN and EU speakers to exchange views on the above mentioned thematic areas, and a (3) Joint Press Conference by the Co-Chairs discussing cooperation on sustainable development to support ASEAN and EU member countries’ efforts in achieving Sustainable Development Goals.
