The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, together with the United Nations Action of Cooperation against Trafficking in Persons (UNACT), will host a workshop on the “United Nations Global Plan of Action on Combatting Trafficking in Persons: Appraisal of Implementation and the Challenges Ahead” on 31 August 2017 at the Pullman King Power Hotel, Bangkok.

The workshop aims to enhance capacity-building and raise awareness among all stakeholders including Thai officials, CSOs, NGOs, IOs, the private sector, development partners and Embassies on the United Nations Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons (UNGPA). The UNGPA, which was adopted by UN member states in 2010 through resolution 64/293, has been the key driving mechanism for policy makers as well as enhanced cooperation globally in the fight against human trafficking. Moreover, this workshop will also prepare Thailand and relevant stakeholders for the second High-Level Appraisal of the UNGPA, which will be held during the High Level Meeting at the General Assembly on 27-28 September 2017 in New York.

Since 2014, the Royal Thai Government has placed combatting human trafficking as a top national agenda. The adoption of the “zero tolerance” for human trafficking policy has been the driving force in the government’s efforts to eliminate all forms of human trafficking. The workshop aims to enhance capacity-building for all stakeholders in Thailand to combat human trafficking.
