H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, had a fruitful meeting with H.E. Mr. Pavlo Klimkin, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, on 5 June 2017 during the latter’s official visit to Thailand from 4 – 5 June 2017. H.E. Mr. Sonthirat Sonthijirawong, Deputy Minister of Commerce, also joined in the bilateral meeting.
Both sides discussed ways to further enhance cooperation and strengthen economic relations, including the possibility of convening the 2nd session of Thailand – Ukraine Political Consultations and subsequently the 1st Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation
After the bilateral meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine signed a Treaty between the Kingdom of Thailand and Ukraine on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters in order to strengthen cooperation and facilitation in criminal cases. The Deputy Minister of Commerce and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine also signed a Trade Agreement between the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Government of Ukraine in order to promote trade and investment cooperation through the exchange of visits of trade representatives and business groups, as well as the establishment of a Thailand – Ukraine Joint Trade Committee.
On this occasion, the Minister of Foreign Affairs hosted a luncheon in honour of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and his delegation. The Deputy Minister of Commerce also attended the luncheon.
This visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine marks the first high level visit at the ministerial level from Ukraine to Thailand. As the official visit coincides with the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Ukraine on 6 May 1992, the visit provided a good opportunity for the two countries to exchange views on issues of common concern and discuss how to further cooperation between the two countries.
