On 19 October 2016, the Royal Thai Embassy and the Thai community in Ottawa and surrounding areas held a candlelight ceremony at the Embassy in remembrance of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of the Kingdom of Thailand.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Vijavat Isarabhakdi delivered remarks to mourn the passing of His Majesty the King and to honour the great monarch who had dedicated his life for the benefit of the Thai people since the beginning of His reign. The ceremony also included a poem recitation, a 9-minute-long moment of silence, and a singing of the Thai Royal Anthem. More than 200 Thai and Friends of Thailand gathered to grieve over this immense loss and to pay homage to the late beloved King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
