The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will host a seminar on “Turning the tide: Partnership for Sustainable Fisheries” on Thursday 18 August 2016 at SO Sofitel Bangkok.

The aim of this event is to follow up the outcomes of last year’s seminar on “Fishing for the Future: Towards Responsible and Sustainable Fisheries in Thailand”, where experts from the European Union (EU), EU members and international organizations were invited to share experiences and lesson learnt on sustainable fisheries to raise awareness on the need to fight IUU fishing among the Thai relevant stakeholders in both government and private sectors. Last year’s seminar was held at the time when Thailand embarked on its fisheries reform and served to provide foreign experiences that can contribute to Thailand’s fights against IUU fishing.

For the upcoming seminar, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has coordinated with the Royal Thai Embassy in Oslo, Norway, in inviting Mr. Vidar Landmark, Director-General of Department for Fisheries and Aquaculture of Norway, to give a special lecture about fisheries management.
In the morning session, Mr. Landmark will share his experiences and exchange views with the Thai relevant stakeholders who have been involved in Thailand’s fisheries reform during the past year. The afternoon session will focus on the private and the government sector’s discussion concerning public-private cooperation in tackling the IUU fishing.

The seminar corresponds with the government’s policy in boosting government and private sector’s capacity in fisheries management sector by learning from international experience and knowledge to tackle IUU fishing as well as promote Thailand’s sustainable fisheries in the long run.
