Following a series of explosions in public areas in certain provinces during 11 – 12 August 2016 leaving 4 people dead and 34 injured, the Royal Thai Government expresses its profound regrets for the incidents. It condemns the perpetrators of the crimes and sends heart-felt condolences to families that have lost their loved ones and those who have been wounded. The government has instructed relevant agencies to assist, facilitate and compensate tourists who have been affected by the incidents.
To ensure public order and safety of the people, including tourists, the government has instructed local authorities to tighten up measures to prevent any further incident, especially in crowded areas, tourist attractions and other important areas. The government has also assigned concerned authorities to provide assistance in case of an emergency and requests that the people monitor the situation and stay alerted.
The incident is not linked to terrorism but is an act of stirring up public disturbance. Security officials are expediting the interrogation process to bring the culprits to justice. Please rest assured that the government and security agencies are working together to resolve the situation and bring about peace at soonest.
