On 10th June 2016, H.E. Mr. Suvat Chirapant, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Foundation of Islamic Centre of Thailand co-hosted the Iftar Dinner for the diplomatic corps from Muslim countries in Thailand, Islamic scholars and religious leaders, as well as prominent figures of the Muslim Thai community at the Foundation of Islamic Center of Thailand. The event was attended by members of the Muslim diplomatic corps in Thailand from 20 countries, as well as 250 prominent figures and distinguished guests of the Muslim Thai community.
On this occasion, the Deputy Permanent Secretary presented the Ministry’s contribution of 200,000 Baht in support of the Iftar Dinner event to Mr. Samart Maluleem, President of Thai Islamic Centre of Thailand. In his welcome remarks, the Deputy Permanent Secretary reiterated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs attaches importance to strengthening the relations between Thailand and Muslim countries and to supporting Islamic affairs and the Muslim Thai community.
Iftar Dinner is an evening meal when Muslims break their fasts during the Holy month of Ramadan, and holds spiritual value to all Muslims. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the Foundation of Islamic Centre of Thailand has hosted the Iftar Dinner annually since 2009 so as to promote good relations between the Muslim diplomatic corps and Muslim community in Thailand.
