SONGKRAN FESTIVAL AND THAI GASTRONOMY EVENT IN BRASILIA

           During 2 – 6 April 2016, H.E. Mr. Pitchayaphant Charnbhumidol, Ambassador of Thailand to Brazil, together with Thai chefs and Thai traditional dancers from Suan Dusit University, Thailand, organized a Songkran Festival and Thai Gastronomy Event in Brasilia.
           On 2 April 2016, the Royal Thai Embassy organized the celebration of the 2016 traditional New Year of Thailand, or the so-called “Songkran Festival”. More than 200 people from the Thai community and diplomatic corps as well as the friends of Thailand in Brasilia joined the event. In this regard, the Ambassador delivered his remarks explaining the significance and meaning of the Songkran Festival. He also invited and encouraged all guests to travel to Thailand to enjoy the Songkran celebration. During the event, all guests had a chance to experience the authentic Thai food, the Thai traditional dances, and the fruit carving demonstration. In addition, it was an opportunity to witness the actual ceremony of pouring perfumed water on the Buddha Image and elders to get blessings and good sprit, as well as joyfully splashing and throwing water at each other.
            Moreover, during 4 – 6 April 2016, the Embassy together with the Royal Tulip Hotel co-organized the Thai Gastronomy Festival in Brasilia. It was greatly attended by interested Brazilians and the public at large. Throughout the 3-day event, more than 1,000 people, including high ranking representatives from the government of Brazil, experienced and enjoyed Thai food and traditional dances.
