On 25 March 2016, Dr. Sarah Sewall, U.S. Undersecretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights met with Mr. Apichart Chinwanno, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, both sides discussed issues of mutual interests including international migration, migrant worker management, and combating human trafficking. The US side recognized Thailand's endeavor in making combatting human trafficking its national priority, and the significant progress made throughout 2015 especially in the areas of prosecution and victim protection.  Besides that, the two sides also discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in providing humanitarian assistance to refugees and displaced persons, as well as promoting human rights and counter-terrorism. The discussion reflected the determination of both sides to enhance Thailand - U.S. relations in all dimensions, including security, economy, and people-to-people relations.
