On 8 March 2016, H.E. Mr. Bansarn Bunnag, the Ambassador of Thailand to Japan presided over the opening ceremony of the 41st International Food and Beverage Exhibition or FOODEX JAPAN 2016 at Mukuhari Messe, Chiba Prefecture, which is being held from 8-11 March 2016
On this occasion, the Ambassador visited booths from Thailand in the Thai Pavilion, which was designed and organized by the Department of International Trade Promotion, Ministry of Commerce under the concept of “Kitchen of the World”. There are 54 processed food companies from Thailand offering foods such as rice, vegetables, fruit, seafood, seasoning sauce and drinks participating in this event. The Ambassador also visited the booth of the National Food Institute, Ministry of Industry, which assists the private sector in promoting food and drink as well. The most important thing was that the Ambassador joined with the Ministry of Science to promote the “Foodinnopolis” booth. Foodinnopolis is newly established and its purpose is to develop research cooperation in order to enhance the food industry in Thailand according to Thailand’s “super clusters” policy. In addition, the Ambassador also promoted 2 kinds of Thai mangos; Keow Savoey and Chok Anan, which upon the Thai Prime Minister’s request, were authorized to be imported to Japan on 24 Feb 2016. The supporting and assisting of private sectors to join this event, is under one of the government’s policies to develop Thai consumer goods according to the “Thailand Kitchen to the World” strategy.
FOODEX JAPAN is the biggest food and beverage exhibition in Asia, which has been held annually since 1976. It aims to be a stage for business exchange and to extend business potential in the food and beverage industry. More than 3700 booths of food and beverage from Japan and abroad are on display in the event and approximately 75000 people will be expected to participate.
