On 24 February 2016, H.E. Mr. Vutti Vuttisant, Ambassador of Thailand to Nepal, along with his spouse, Embassy’s official, representative from Thai Airways International Co. Ltd., Kathmandu Office, and Phra Sribodhivides, acting abbot, the Royal Thai Monastery, Lumbini attended the inauguration ceremony of “Brightness to the Nepalese’s Eyes” in Lumbini. The project is jointly organized, for 5 consecutive years, by the Royal Thai Embassy, the Royal Thai Monastery, Lumbini, and Thai Airways International Co., Ltd. with an aim to improve the quality of life of vulnerable and deprived people in Nepal who are suffering from cataract and eye-related problems.
The project which was held during 24 – 26 February 2016 was organized for “The Celebrations on the Auspicious Occasion of the 88th Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand 5th December 2015 and the 70th Anniversary of His Majesty's Accession to the Throne 9th June 2016”, “The Celebrations on the Auspicious Occasion of Her Majesty the Queen's 7th Cycle Birthday Anniversary 12th August 2016", and “The Celebrations on the Auspicious Occasion of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn's 5th Cycle Birthday Anniversary 2nd April 2015." Medical team from Thailand led by Dr. Pornchai Simaroj, Specialist from Ramathibodi Hospital, joined hands with Tilganga Institute in eye surgery and treatments. Overall, 728 patients received free eye surgery from the said project which is the highest number since the beginning of the project in 2011.
