On 10 August 2015, H.E. Mr. Pitchayaphant Charnbhumidol, Ambassador of Thailand to Brazil together with other ASEAN Ambassadors and Charge d’ Affaires to Brazil, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam co-hosted a Reception to celebrate the 48th ASEAN Anniversary at the Residence of the Ambassador of Viet Nam.
H.E. Mr. Nguyen Van Kien, Ambassador of Viet Nam to Brazil, the current Chairman of ASEAN Committee in Brasilia, gave opening remarks summarizing the history of ASEAN, ASEAN's relations with Brazil in recent years and the prospects for cooperation in the future. He emphasized the importance of the upcoming establishment of ASEAN Community by the end of 2015, which would promote understanding, mutual trust and a sense of community of the people of ASEAN as well as bring greater opportunities and benefits for all Member States. H.E. Mr. Jose Alfredo Graca Lima, Undersecretary-General for Political Affairs II of the Ministry of External Relations of Brazil, expressed his confidence that three pillars of the ASEAN community – political-security, economic and socio-cultural – would lay the groundwork for a new period of stability, integration and prosperity in Southeast Asia.
More than 50 distinguished guests such as Ambassadors from ASEAN Dialogue Partners, high-ranking officers from the Ministry of External Relations of Brazil, Brazilian politicians and businesspersons attended the Reception.
