On 8 August 2015, the Royal Thai Embassy, Hanoi, together with the Ministry of Culture of Thailand, the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture of Thailand, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam, the Tourism Authority of Thailand and Thai Airways International organized a big band concert performed by RUAMSMAI Big Band at Hanoi Opera House to celebrate the 83rd Anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit on 12 August 2015.
In his opening remarks, H.E. Mr. Panyarak Poolthup, Ambassador of Thailand to Vietnam stated that, in addition to celebrating the 83rd Anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the purpose of this event is to promote cultural exchange and friendship between Thailand and Vietnam in accordance with the Agreement on Cultural Exchange Programme between Thailand and Vietnam for the years 2014 – 2016.
Founded in 2012 with the support of the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture of Thailand, RUAMSMAI Big Band is the first and most well known youth big band of Thailand, gathering talented youths aged 12 – 18 years old from all over the country. The band performs big band music in various genres.
On this occasion, 46 youth musicians performed 18 Thai, Western and Vietnamese songs in big band style including the music compositions of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej such as the Impossible Dream and Dream of Love Dream of You. Ms. Duong Hoang Yen, local uprising star, also participated in this concert.
The event was successful with great response and enthusiasm from more than 600 guests including members of the diplomatic corps, Vietnamese governmental officials, members of the press, students and expatriates and Thai community in Hanoi.
