Ambassador of the Republic of Chile to Thailand pays a courtesy call on the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs

On 26 June 2015, H.E. Mr. Javier Becker Marshall, Ambassador of the Republic of Chile to Thailand, paid a courtesy call on H.E. General Tanasak Patimapragorn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangkok.

               The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs praised the Ambassador for his role and leadership in strengthening bilateral relations between Thailand and Chile. He then expressed his hope that the Free Trade Agreement between Thailand and Chile will be approved by the Chilean Congress in the near future. On this occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs extended his invitation to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chile to visit Thailand and expressed his appreciation for Chile’s support of Thailand’s candidacy for the non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council for the term 2017-2018.

               Ambassador Becker said that Chile is ready to enhance trade and investments between the two countries, and is willing to increase the cooperation with Thailand.  The Ambassador of Chile also confirmed the participation of the Chilean High-level delegation to participate in the 4th Political Consultations between Thailand and Chile in November this year.

               Thailand and Chile established their diplomatic relations on 29 October 1962. Currently, Chile ranks as the 4th trade partner of Thailand in Latin America and Caribbean. The overall trade volume of the two countries was 961.10 million US dollar in 2014.
