On 11 May 2015, Mr. Saif Abdulla Mohamed Khalfan Al Shamisi, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Thailand, paid a courtesy call on General Tanasak Patimapragorn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, on the occasion of his assumption to duty.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs welcomed the Ambassador and expressed his willingness to support the Ambassador’s endeavors in Thailand. He then reiterated his appreciation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the UAE for the warm hospitality during his Official Visit in February 2015.

During the discussion, both sides explored ways and means to further enhance bilateral cooperation in all areas, such as trade and investment and medical tourism.  The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs also extended an invitation to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE to officially visit Thailand during the First Meeting of the Joint Commission Meeting on Economic, Trade and Technical Cooperation in October 2015. This proposed visit would serve as a good occasion to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Thai – UAE diplomatic relations.

The UAE is one of Thailand’s most important trading partners in the Middle East and is Thailand’s number one supplier of oil. While tourists from the UAE rank second in Thailand’s visitors from the Middle East, Dubai is the number one destination in the Middle East for Thai tourists.
