On 22 - 28 March 2015, Mr. PitchayaphantCharnbhumidol, Ambassador of Thailand to Brazil together with his spouse, Ms. KrissanaSukhumparnich, Thailand Office of Agricultural Affairs, Los Angeles, CA, USA., Mr. Asst. Prof. SuriyanTunkijjanukij, Dean of Faculty of Fisheries, Kasertsart University, Dr. KanyawimKirtikara, Executive Director, National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), Dr. NitsaraKaroonuthaisiri, Director, Biosensing Technology Research Unit, BIOTEC, paid an official visit to Manaus, State of Amazonas to promote bilateral and technical cooperation in the potential areas of mutual interest between the State of Amazonas and Thailand, such as fishing, aquaculture, biodiversity, tropical biology, research and innovation in agriculture.
During the visit, the Ambassador and the Thai delegation paid a courtesy call on to H.E. Mr. José Melo de Oliveira, Governor of Amazonas and met other state secretaries where the future cooperation between Thailand and Amazonas in various areas were discussed. At the Federation of Industries of the State of Amazonas (FIEAM), the Ambassador gave a briefing on trade and investment opportunities between Thailand and the State of Amazonas and exchanged views with representatives of FIEAM as well as Brazilian businesspersons. The Thai delegation also discussed possibilities in promoting science and technology cooperation with Mr. Luiz Renato de França, Director of National Institute of Amazonian Research (INPA) and a group of researchers of INPA. They explored possible agricultural needs to cooperate with the Federation of Agriculture of the State of Amazonas.
The Ambassador also pointed out some potential areas for Thai investors to have more trade and investment with Brazil and Amazonas in the near future, such as, auto-parts, electronics components and aquaculture.
