Thai Cultural Roadshow in Germany

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with the Ministry of Culture organized Thai Cultural Roadshow in Germany during 24 - 27 February 2015.  Led by Mr. Suvat Chirapant, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the dance troupe from Bunditpatanasilpa Institute and handicraft demonstrators showcased Thai culture to promote as well as to enhance Thailand’s popularity and image in Hamburg and Berlin.

On 24 February 2015, the Royal Thai Embassy in Berlin and the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Hamburg co-organized a dinner reception to celebrate the auspicious occasion of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s 5th Cycle Birthday Anniversary 2nd April 2015 at Atlantic Kempinski Hotel, Hamburg. Apart from the cultural performances, the slides show highlighted H.R.H. the Princess’ activities during the royal visit to Germany in the past three years were also presented at the event.  Invited guests from Germany’s public and private sectors, academic, civil society and leaders of Thai community in Hamburg attended the said reception.  

On 26 February 2015, the ‘Thai Cultural Night’ took place at Deutsche Bank in Berlin.  Invited guests were members of the National Parliament of the Federal Republic of Germany, high ranking officers from culture related authorities, diplomatic corps, outstanding businesspersons and academicians. The attendance also included H.E. Dr. Surin Pitsuwan, President of Future Innovative Thailand Institute and Former ASEAN Secretary-General, who delivered keynote address on “Thailand and ASEAN Economic Community 2015 - Opportunities and Challenges for the German SMEs” at ‘Thailand Update,’ an event organized by the Embassy at the Parliament earlier on that same day.                         

In addition, Thai cultural workshop was held at the Royal Thai Embassy in Berlin on 27 February 2015 for the cultural troupe to demonstrate flower garland making, handkerchief/napkin folding, umbrella painting and Thai traditional dance.  The workshop also provided an opportunity for diplomatic corps and spouses, Thai community in Berlin, Southeast Asian Studies’ students and interest public to participate in a first-hand practicing experience of Thai culture and art.
