On February 25, 2014, Mr. Oleg Safonov, Head of the Fedearal Agency of Tourism of the Russian Federation, together with the representatives from the Government of the Moscow Region paid courtesy call upon H.E. Dr. Itti Ditbanjong, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Russian Federation.
The meeting was also attended by Ms. Eumporn Jiragalwisul, Director of Tourism Authority of Thailand in Moscow, Mr. Boonyarit Vichienpuntu, Counsellor (economic and cultural affairs) and Mr. Sorawut Norapoompipat, First Secretary (protocol).
The Thai Ambassador pointed out that there are still more opportunities for Thai - Russian cooperation on tourism to be further promoted and strengthened. According to Mr. Safonov, the Russian side realized the business potentials of Thai tourism while having discussed with the Thai businessmen in this field during the official visit to Thailand of the H.E. Mr. Denis Manturov, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation last January 2015.
The Thai Ambassador also supported the proposal made by the Representative of the Government of the Moscow Region to promote the Thai - Russian technical cooperation on Russian language and hotel management through the cooperation between Thai academic institutions and Moscow Region State University. Such initiative would help reduce the lack of the personnel in the tourism industry who are able to command Russian, as well as to uplift the quality of the service that suits exclusively to the need of the Russian tourists.
