On 2 March 2015, during his visit to Geneva, Switzerland, to attend the 28th Session of the Human Rights Council, H.E. General Tanasak Patimapragorn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, met with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and Director-General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
During his meeting with Prince Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Tanasak updated the High Commissioner on recent political developments towards sustainable democracy in Thailand and reaffirmed the Royal Thai Government’s commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights. Both sides expressed readiness to further engage in discussions on human rights issues.
Mr. William Lacy Swing, Director-General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), commented the Thai Government for undertaking large scale registration of irregular migrants which will provide them with better protection and care. The two sides also discussed the long-standing cooperation and partnership between Thailand and the IPM, in particular the resettlement of asylum seekers and the fight against human trafficking including the Bali Process.
