On 19 February 2015, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn granted a Royal Audience to committee members and participants of Bodh Gaya Ordination Programme led by General Tanasak Patimapragorn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, at Chaipattana Building, Chitralada Palace.

The Bodh Gaya Ordination Programme is held to commemorate the auspicious occasion of the 60th Birthday Anniversary of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindorn on 2 April 2015 and will take place from 28 February – 8 March 2015 in India and Nepal.

The programme, which is a collaboration between 4 agencies, namely the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office, the National Office of Buddhism, and the Office of Thai Buddhist Missionaries in India and Nepal, aims to dedicate the acts of merit-making to Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, preserve Buddhism in Thailand and India, as well as strengthen Thai - Indian people-to-people relations. Apart from the ordination, the delegation will also donate basic necessities and learning materials to the local communities along the Buddhist pilgrimage route.

The ordination participants comprise Thais from public and private sectors and students and Indian Buddhists. The ordination ceremony will be held under the sacred Bodhi Tree and at Thai Buddhagaya Temple in Bihar, India. Thereafter, the group of approximately 150 Thai monks and pilgrims will be travelling or yatra from Bodh Gaya to Kushinagar passing through Rajgir, Nalanda, Varanasi, Sarnath in India and Lumbini in Nepal.
