Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, gave a press conference on his meeting today with Mr. Patrick Murphy, Charge d’Affaires a.i. of the U.S. Embassy in Thailand, in relation to the recent visit to Thailand during 24 - 26 January 2015 by Mr. Daniel Russel, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed the concerns and disappointment from many quarters in Thailand regarding some parts of Mr. Russel’s speech given in the afternoon of Monday 26 January at the Institute of Security and International Studies (ISIS), Chulalongkorn University, which many feel could fuel further political sentiments in Thailand.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs also informed the U.S. side of the Prime Minister’s plans to attend the 70th United Nations General Assembly in New York in September this year and of the hope that the U.S. could seek this opportunity to reinforce the bilateral ties between the two countries.

The two sides also exchanged views on expanding bilateral cooperation in all fronts.  Mr. Murphy also reaffirmed the intention by the U.S. to enhance relations between the two countries.
