On 11 December 2014, Mr. Manopchai Vongphakdi, Director-General, Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Mr. Sayed Rasool Mohajer, Director-General for East Asia and Pacific, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, co-chaired the first meeting of the Thailand – Iran Political Consultations (at the Director-General level), hosted by the Thai side, at the Sukosol Hotel, Bangkok.

The two sides took this opportunity to review bilateral relations and cooperation between Thailand and Iran in various fields, especially trade, investment, exchanges of visits and tourism, as well as exploring potentials and opportunities presented in each country.  Moreover, both sides also exchanged views on regional and global issues.

In addition, the two sides agreed to organise activities to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Iran in 2015. Both sides expressed readiness to provide full support for such activities to be organised by the Royal Thai Embassy in Tehran as well as the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Bangkok.
