On 29 September - 1 October 2014, Mr. Songsak Saicheua, Director-General of Department of American and South Pacific Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, together with Mr. Pitchayaphant Charnbhumidol, the Ambassador of Thailand to Brazil led a Thai delegation comprising government officials as well as senior and high-level business persons to visit Sao Paulo, Brazil to promote trade and investment opportunities between the two countries under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand’s Latin Link project.

            On 29 September 2014, the Director-General of American Department, the Ambassador and the delagation called on Mr. Lafer, a representative of the governor of the State of São Paulo and the President of São Paulo Research Foundation. During the call, they discussed ways and means to promote bilateral cooperation in the areas of trade and investment, organizing trade missions, scientific and technical cooperation, especially in biodiversity, development of bioenergy, innovation researches, exchanges of students and researchers as well as the possibility for establishing a science policy dialogue between the related authorities of the two countries.

            The Royal Thai Embassy in Brasilia also organized the seminar on Trade and Investment Opportunities in Brazil for the Thai Companies at Tivoli Hotel. There were several speakers, namely (1) Mr. Welber Barral, the Embassy Economic Advisor (2) Mr. Sérgio Costa, Director of International Relations of Investe SP (the private company facilitating International Companies to invest in the State of Sao Paulo) and Mr. Khamhaeng Klasukhon, Director of Thai Trade Center in Sao Paulo. H.E. Ambassador himself monitored the discussion. Thai business people showed great interests to conduct business in Brazil. After the seminar, the Thai Embassy also organized the business matchings for the Thai business delegates.  In this regard, there were a number of Brazilian companies attended the said session and expressed interests to do business with the Thai companies.  

            On 30 September 2014, the Ambassador led the Thai delegation to meet with many business agencies and associations such as SP Negócios, Federacao das  Industrias  de Sao Paulo (FIESP) and the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) to discuss ways and means to increase the bilateral trade between Thailand and Brazil and  to promote joint ventures and investment of Thai companies in Brazil. 

            The successful visit of the Director-General and his delegation to Brazil would become key factor in strengthening the economic relations between Thailand and Brazil and in expanding the collaboration in various areas such as trade, investment and tourism between the two countries.
