On 25-28 August 2014, Team Thailand Delegation, led by H.E. Chirachai Punkrasin, Ambassador of Thailand, and comprising representatives from the Thai Trade Office in Mexico and the Thai Office of Agricultural Affairs in Los Angeles, paid a visit to the State of Sonora, in the Northwestern region of Mexico, with a view to strengthening not only commercial relations but also cooperation and people-to-people ties with the state of Sonora.

The Delegation visited the state capital Hermosillo and the port city Guaymas and had fruitful meetings with the Secretary of Economy, the Vice Secretary of Agriculture and Fisheries, other government officials as well as the business community in sectors of mutual interest including automotive, aerospace and fishery. Furthermore, the Thai delegation had field visits to automotive companies including “ProAutomation”, “Faurecia” and “Martinrea”, as well as the aerospace company “IT Connectivity” and the sardine processing plant “Pescaharina”.

Thailand and the State of Sonora share strength in the fields of automotive, aerospace and fishery where opportunities for trade, investment and cooperation are to be further explored. A concrete example of business relations despite the distance is the case of ProAutomation, a Sonora-based SME company specializing in integration and automation of industrial processes, who is now running a robotic installation project for the carmaker Ford’s manufacturing facility in Thailand.

The Royal Thai Embassy expresses its sincere appreciation for the kind hospitality and arrangement extended to the delegation by both the authorities and the business community of the State of Sonora.
