On 29 July 2014, H.E. Mr. Pitchayaphant Charnbhumidol, Ambassador of Thailand to Brazil, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Paulo Sergio Oliveira Passos, Minister of Transportation of Brazil.

           During the meeting, Ambassador of Thailand exchanged views with the Transportation Minister on national development of Brazil as well as transportation developments of Brazil. Brazil is the hub of South America while Thailand is the hub of Southeast Asian region. Both countries, therefore, have much potential to closely cooperate and develop bilateral relations and linkages between each other, including technical cooperation. Thai Embassy stands ready to support and enhance exchanges of visit as well as experiences between Brazil and Thailand in the near future.   

           Ambassador Charnbhumidol and the Minister further exchanged views on various issues such as Brazil’s policy to open bidding for foreign investors in mega- infrastructure construction. Thai Ambassador also informed the Minister about the development of Thailand Dual-Track Railway Projects to further facilitate the logistics system for transportation of both passengers and products as well as development of major ports in Thailand.

            Ambassador Charnbhumidol also took the opportunity to explain the political situation in Thailand that the provisional constitution has been promulgated and there would be an establishment of a National Legislative Assembly, Interim Prime Minister and Cabinet as well as a National Reform Council and a drafting of new constitution in September and October 2014, respectively.  A free and fair election under a democratic system was expected to be held by October 2015.
