The 56th International Al-Quran Reciter’s Assembly was organized by the Government of Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur from 16 – 21 June 2014. Two Thai reciters, Mr. Pranon Mustafa and Miss Kanlayanee Mumi participated in the said event. The participating reciters from 44 countries were categorized into 4 groups, namely Qari, Qariah, Hafiz and Hafiah. Miss Kanlayanee Mumi from Thailand won the 4th prize of the Qariah competition, and was awarded 15,000 Malaysian Ringgit from Her Majesty the Queen of Malaysia. Malaysian reciters won every competition category.

On this occasion, the Minister Counsellor and the First Secretary from Royal Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur attended the event to give support and encouragement to Thai representatives. The Muslim Association of Al-Quran Reader of Thailand is recognized by the Royal Thai Government as the national specialized organization on Al-Quran reciting under the patronage of the Sheikhul Islam of Thailand. Since 2006, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand has provided support to the Association by granting funds as well as assisting in related coordination and facilitation. Participation in international Al-Quran competitions provides a valuable opportunity for Thai reciters to develop their skills, to establish networks with the international Muslim community as well as to promote a better understanding of Thailand among the international community on freedom of religion.
