Ambassador of Thailand to Myanmar joined in celebrating the World Blood Donors’ Day2014

     On 14 June 2014, Ambassador PisanuSuvanajata joined the celebration of the World Blood Donors’ Day at the National Blood Centre, Yangon. Also present were Dr.Min ThanNyunt,Director-General of Department of Health, and Prof. Dr.ThaHlaShwe, President of Myanmar Red Cross Society. Under this year's theme “Safe Blood for Saving Mothers”, the aims were to promote safe blood transfusion with the focus on screening and testing of collected blood, as well as to promote blood donation and further improve bloodtransfusion service to save lives of the needed,especially for mothers who encounter fatal risk during their delivery.
     Inhis speech, AmbassadorPisanu congratulated the National Blood Centre, all its personnel, and Dr. Thida Aung, In-Charge ofNational Blood Centre, on being awarded“the International Society of Blood Transfusion Award for Developing Countries” in recognition of their hard work in promoting blood transfusion  and life-saving through blood service throughout the past years.
     Thailand and Myanmar continue their cooperation on blood service from year 2008 when Myanmar was struck by Nargis Cyclone at the Royal initiative of H.R.H. Princess MahaChakriSirindhorn. With her gracious support, the building of the National Blood Centre was renovated as well as refurnished with various modern equipment for its laboratory and better service for blood transfusion. Since then, numerous cooperation programmes have been rendered, including materials, capacity building, and exchange programme which reflect the friendship and good neighbourliness of both countries for this noble humanitarian mission without frontiers.
