At 13:00 hrs. Mr.Tharit Pengdit, Director General, Department of Special Investigation, briefed the press on the outcome of the meeting of the Center For Maintaining Peace and Order (CMPO) earlier in the day, gist as follows:

1. The CMPO has received a report that several complaints have been filed with the police against 5 members of the central Election Commission (EC) for failing to perform their duties. Complaints have been filed in Satun and Pattalung Provinces, as well as 6 police stations in Bangkok. Most complaints have requested the CMPO to investigate the central EC in 6 cases: not organizing elections, allowing protesters to obstruct elections, not organizing candidate registration in 28 districts, not instructing officials to perform their duties, not announcing election results, and deliberately obstructing the election process in order not to have sufficient Members of Parliament as required by law. The CMPO will closely monitor the performance of the central EC.

2. The CMPO has received a report from the Metropolitan Police and Provincial Police regional commands regarding the legal proceedings against the election obstructions. So far, there are 194 cases involving election obstructions (51 cases in Bangkok and 143 cases in other provinces) and 177 cases involving the failure of electoral officers to perform their duties (66 cases in Bangkok and 111 cases in other provinces). 192 persons already faced arrest warrants. 115 persons have been brought to justice.

3. Following the filing of complaints against the CMPO by relatives of those who lost their lives in the incident at Phan Fa Lilat District, the CMPO explained that it was not an attempt to disperse the crowd, but an operation to search and arrest offenders for whom the Court had issued arrest warrants as well as an attempt to reopen public space and government agencies that had been blockaded by the People's Democratic Committee (PDRC). Moreover, it was a transparent operation which was witnessed by the media. Many illegal materials such as explosive devices were also found at the site. However, it is the right of the public to file complaints in such case and the CMPO is ready to answer all questions.
