On 11 September 2013, the Royal Thai Embassy in Mexico and the Foreign Relations Committee for Asia-Pacific of the Mexican Senate co-hosted the 3rd Thai Studies Seminar at the Senate Building. The event was attended by over 120 people including senators, diplomatic corps, Mexican Foreign Ministry officials, businessmen and academics. It is particularly a welcoming sign that most of the attendants of the Thai Studies Seminar were Mexican university students, reflecting increasing interest of the Mexican youth towards the Asia-Pacific region.
At this year’s Thai Studies Seminar, the Royal Thai Embassy had the honour of the presence of many experts on Thailand including former Ambassadors, Mexican Foreign Ministry official, Mexican scholars who have traveled to Thailand under the Thai Studies Scholarship, the representative of the World Boxing Council, businessmen as well as a Thai academic who lives and teaches in Mexico, to present various aspects of Thailand-Mexico relations, Thai culture and trade opportunities between the two countries. In addition, the recently published 2nd Thai Studies Book was presented and distributed to the public.
The Royal Thai Embassy has been running the Thai Studies Program for the third year consecutive in Mexico, with a view to increase the awareness and understanding of Mexican people towards Thailand, particularly among academics and the youth. Educational exchanges are an essential foundation for the strengthening of relations between Thailand and Mexico, as well as between Asia and Latin America. While some people might still view the two continents as being far apart, an increasing number of initiatives has been put forward to close the Pacific Gap and bridge the two continents with the most dynamic economies in the world.
