The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will organize a meeting of Thai ambassadors and consuls-general to Middle Eastern countries on 5 August 2013 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which will also be attended by executives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as representatives from other ministries and the private sector. Mr. Surapong Tovichakchaikul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, will preside over and chair the meeting.
The objectives of the meeting are to review Thailand’s strategies toward the Middle East and provide an opportunity to discuss regional challenges and how to foster closer cooperation with countries in the Middle East, especially on trade, investment and tourism.
The meeting will also be an opportunity for the Thai envoys to be updated on the current situation in the southern border provinces and exchange views on how to address the situation. The meeting will also be another channel to receive input from other Thai government agencies and the private sector on the formulation of policy toward the Middle East in the future.
