Prince Mahidol Award Youth Program Scholarship Recipients Announced for 2013

On Tuesday, 30 July 2013, the Prince Mahidol Award Foundation under Royal Patronage announced the Prince Mahidol Award Youth Program (PMA YP) Scholars for 2013.

The announcement was made at the Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University. Present were Clin. Prof. Supat Vanichakarn, Secretary General of Prince Mahidol Award Foundation under Royal Patronage; Mr. Manasvi Srisodapol, Director-General of the Department of Information of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Subcommittee on Public Affairs, Prince Mahidol Award Foundation, along with board members of the Prince Mahidol Award Foundation.

The names of the five PMA YP scholars are:
1. Mr. Janewit Wongboonsin, Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University
2. Ms. Prowpanga Udompap, Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University
3. Mr. Pakawat Chongsathidkiet, Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University
4. Mr. Veraprapas Kittipibul, Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University
5. Mr. Supavit Chesdachai, Faculty of Medicine, Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University

Twenty-three applicants from 10 institutions were nominated for the scholarship this year. Only 5 applicants met the criteria. The Selection Committee selected the scholars and presented the results to the Board of Trustees of which HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn is the President. The final decision was made on 3 June 2013.

The Prince Mahidol Award Youth Program was established on 20 November 2008, based on a decision of the Prince Mahidol Award Foundation Committee. The program aims to support and encourage young Thais who love the medical profession to follow in the footsteps of HRH Prince Mahidol of Songkhla, father to His Majesty King Bhumibol.

The successful scholars will receive a full royal scholarship for research, professional training, or community development work abroad or in-country for one year, which will  be counted towards their working time to repay the government for the scholarship.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will brief the scholars on foreign cultures and customs and provide other useful information for living abroad. The Ministry will also ask relevant Thai embassies and consulates to support and assist the scholars during their stays abroad.
