The Royal Thai Government is deeply disturbed by the bomb explosions which occurred on Sunday 7 July 2013 at Mahabodhi Temple in Gaya, a UNESCO world heritage site and one of the most important Buddhist religious pilgrimage sites. The incident caused at least 6 injuries, including 2 Buddhist monks.

Given the historical and religious significance of Mahabodhi Temple for Buddhists worldwide, it is hoped that the Indian authorities concerned would take steps to ensure the security of the holy sites.

The Royal Thai Consulate-General in Kolkata has requested the authorities concerned for special vigilance and protection of Thai temples, Thai Buddhist monks, and Thai citizens who reside and travel on pilgrimage in the state of Bihar.

There have been no reports of further explosion incidents. Nonetheless, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises Thai nationals wishing to travel to Bodh Gaya and locations nearby to exercise caution.
