On 13 June 2013, Team Thailand Mumbai, comprised of Mr. Nat Pinyowattanacheep, Consul-General of Thailand, Mr. Adul Chotinisakorn, Executive Director of the Thai Trade Center, and Ms. Kanokporn Chotipal, Director of the Thailand Board of Investment, called on Mr. Adi Godrej, Chairman of Godrej Group which is a giant in consumer products in India.

Both parties discussed about economic, trade and investment opportunities in Thailand especially in the context of Thailand becoming an integral part of the ASEAN economic community in 2015 and many mega projects to build up physical connectivity in transportation from the North eastern part of India and Thailand through Myanmar which will also link with the other countries in ASEAN. Team Thailand Mumbai also asked Godrej Group to consider helping Thailand in promoting more Thai products and Thai fruits in Nature’s Basket, the supermarket chain of Godrej Industries Limited.

Despite the fact that Godrej Group does not have any investment in Thailand currently, it has numerous manufacturing plants and companies worldwide such as in Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Nigeria, Kenya, and Argentina. Mr. Adi Godrej informed the Team Thailand Mumbai that the Group would be much interested in acquiring a well-established Thai consumer-products company if such opportunity will bring up in the future and it is open to study any upcoming investment opportunities in Thailand.
