On 9 January 2020, Miss Sweeya Santipitaks, Consul-General of Thailand in Kolkata, graced her presence at the Bicentenary Flower Show & World Regional Rose Convention 2020 at the Agri Horticultural Society of India (AHSI), Kolkata, West Bengal, India.
The said event was hosted from 9 to 11 January 2020 by the Agri Horticultural Society of India in association with other international and local entities, namely the World Federation of Rose Societies (WFRS), the Indian Rose Federation (IRF) and the Bengal Rose Society (BRS).
As a Guest of Honour, the Consul-General delivered her speech to commend AHSI’s initiatives and activities which helped raise awareness and encouraged exchanges of knowledge on agriculture, horticulture and environment, especially among the young generations. As the central theme was the roses, she mentioned the importance of the roses as the symbols of love in literature, and their medicinal virtues and soothing aromas.
She evoked Thailand’s national pride in a special species of rose named “Queen Sirikit”, which the director of the French rosarium "Grandes Roseraies du Val de Loire" requested and received permission to name it after Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother of Thailand. This special rose had 60 petals and a dominant bright yellow colour tone with orange-pinkish tints at the edges of the petals.
At the end, she invited the guests to admire the beauty of the floral decoration by Mr. Phubast Chesdmethee, Thai international floral designer and Vice President of the World Flower Council for Asia-Pacific, and mentioned the floral artistic fashion show created by Mr. Chesdmethee as one of the highlights not to miss on 11 January 2020. Furthermore, dried floral materials from the Royal Project under His Majesty the King of Thailand’s patronage were also available for sale during this event.
On 11 January 2020, at the closing ceremony of the Bicentenary Flower Show & World Regional Rose Convention 2020, the Consul-General of Thailand attended the floral artistic fashion show designed by Mr. Phubast Chesdmethee, which brought amazement and joy to the guests, most of which were adept in agriculture and horticulture, or flower enthusiasts who were also the potential target group and customers of Thai art of floral decorations.
